Banco do Brasil S.A. (Bank of Brazil) is the oldest and the largest bank in Brazil and Latin America with total assets of BRL 1.402 trillion as March 31, 2017. It is controlled by the Brazilian government but its stock is traded on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange. The company focuses on the retail and wholesale segments providing savings and current accounts, consumer, commercial and agribusiness loans, time deposits, asset management, investments, life and health insurance, property/casualty insurance, pension plans, credit and debit cards, government banking services, foreign trade services, online banking and much more. BB is absolute leader in loans to Brazilian agribusiness with a market share of 61% as well as market leader in payroll loans (23% market share). With about 100,000 employees, Banco do Brasil serves over 64 million customers through more than 5,400 branches and over 45,000 ATMs distributed among 3,550 Brazilian municipalities. Internationally, the Bank has 49 offices in 24 countries including the United States (Banco do Brasil Americas has six branches). BB clients can also use a network made up 869 correspondent banks in 105 countries in order to carry out transactions all over the world. In November 2008, Banco do Brasil purchased 72% of Banco Nossa Caixa, a commercial bank owned by the state of Sao Paulo, for R$5.4 billion. In January 2010, Banco do Brasil acquired 49.99% of the voting shares (50% of the total capital) of Banco Votorantim for R$4.2 billion. In 2010, Banco do Brasil acquired a 51% stake in Banco Patagonia for $480 million. Banco Patagonia is one of the ten largest banks in Argentina with more than 800,000 customers and 180 branches, mainly in Buenos Aires. Since 2000, Banco do Brasil is one of the four most-profitable Brazilian banks (the others being Itaú Unibanco, Bradesco, Santander Brasil). As of March 31, 2017, Bank of Brazil had total loan portfolio of BRL 638.3 billion. The company was established on October 12, 1808 and is headquartered in Brasilia, Brazil.
