Barclays Africa Group Limited is one of major financial services providers in Africa. It operates as a subsidiary of Barclays Bank plc. The Group was created through combining Absa Group Limited and Barclays’ African operations in 2013. The company offers retail and business banking, corporate and investment banking, wealth and investment management, insurance products, credit cards and other services. With 41,700 permanent employees, it serves over 12.5 million customers through approximately 1,200 branches (of which about 750 branches in South Africa and 114 branches in Kenya) and 10,000 ATMs in 12 countries. Headquartered in Johannesburg, the company has representative offices and subsidiaries in Ghana, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Uganda, Nigeria, Botswana and Zambia. In 2017, Barclays plc reduced its ownership in Barclays Africa from 62% to 14.9%. As of June 30, 2017, Barclays Africa Group had consolidated total assets of R1.138 trillion (US$87 billion), customer loans of R728.985 billion and customer deposits of R696.362 billion.
