Bank of Communications (BoCom) was founded in 1908 and today it is the sixth largest commercial bank in China with assets of CNY 8.403 trillion (US$1.2 trillion) as of December 31, 2016. With over 92,000 employees, BoCom provides a wide range of commercial and retail banking services through over 230 branches and 3,300 banking outlets nationwide as well as through overseas branches and offices in New York, San Francisco, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, Sydney, Macau, Ho Chi Minh, Taipei, London, Luxembourg, Paris, Brisbane, Rome and Toronto. The New York Branch was established in 1991 as federal-chartered wholesale banking institution dedicated to serving commercial and industrial business in the United States and promoting Sino-American trade. The Bank’s Board of Directors is composed of 16 directors, including 4 executive directors, 7 non-executive directors, and 5 independent non-executive directors. HSBC Holdings, the overseas strategic partner, holds close to a 20% interest in BoCom. As of April 2017, the company had a market capitalization of US$60 billion.
