The Norinchukin Bank is a national-level cooperative financial institution serving agricultural, fishing and forestry industries. It is one of the largest banks in Japan and one of the leading institutional investors with an investment portfolio of USD 550 billion. It invests in securitization products, bonds, stock, private equity, and real estate. The company has branches in New York, London and Singapore as well as representative offices in Hong Kong and Beijing. The Norinchukin Bank was established on December 20, 1923 as the central bank for industrial cooperatives. As of March 31, 2017, it had total assets of ¥ 107.063 trillion (USD 960 billion) and deposits of ¥ 61.904 trillion.
