General Bank of Canada (GBC) is a Schedule 1 Chartered bank operating as a subsidiary of First Canadian Insurance Corporation. The Bank provides new or used automobile loans through a network of franchised auto dealers. It has established business relationships with more than 1,200 auto dealerships across the country. The company also offers Guaranteed Investment Certificates (GICs) with attractive rates, through a network of independent registered deposit brokers and investment dealers. In 2015, the Bank launched a commercial lending division, specializing in real estate, aircraft, and heavy equipment financing. GBC is a member of the Canadian Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) which insures deposits up to C$100,000 per personal account. It is also a member of the Registered Deposit Brokers Association (RDBA). The company was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta. As of May 31, 2017, General Bank of Canada had C$1.137 billion in total assets.
