Allied Irish Banks (AIB)

Allied Irish Banks, plc (AIB) is one of the Big Four commercial banks in Ireland. It offers current and savings accounts, personal and business loans, mortgages, debit and credit cards, investments, pension products, financial planning, wealth management, corporate finance, merchant and treasury services, online and mobile banking as well as home and travel insurance, health and life insurance, car insurance and other services. AIB operates more than 200 branches across Ireland as well as has offices in the UK and the United States. The company doesn’t maintain a physical presence in the Cayman Islands and AIB’s Grand Cayman Branch is managed from its New York offices. In the United Kingdom, AIB operates under the two brands: Allied Irish Bank (GB) in Great Britain and First Trust Bank in Northern Ireland. In 2011, The Capita Group, the UK’s leading business process outsourcing (BPO), acquired the international financial services business of AIB. Allied Irish Bank was effectively nationalized in 2010 and became the fourth bank to be nationalized following Anglo Irish Bank, Irish Nationwide, and EBS Building Society. The Irish State holds circa 99.9% of the ordinary shares of the Bank. As of December 31, 2016, Allied Irish Banks plc had total assets of EUR 95.622 billion, customer loans of EUR 60.6 billion and customer deposits of EUR 63.5 billion. AIB Group employs over 10,000 people. The company was established in September 1966 through the merger of the Provincial Bank of Ireland (est.1825), Munster and Leinster Bank (est. 1885), and the Royal Bank of Ireland (est. 1836). AIB's market capitalization was EUR 13.5 billion as of July 12, 2017.
