Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A. (CDP) is Italy’s national promotional financial institution headquartered in Roma.
The Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance holds 82.8% of the company’s capital; private shareholders (Banking Foundations) hold 15.9% and the remaining 1.3% in treasury shares. CDP provides lending products to state and regional governments, local authorities, public bodies, and public law entities. Following the acquisition by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, CDP Group was born with renewed ambitions to support the internationalization of Italian enterprises and international cooperation. In 2015, the Italian Government and the European Union assigned Cassa Depositi e Prestiti the role of National Promotion Institution. CDP is the top investor in Italian stock market and owns stocks of the following companies: Terna Group (energy transmission grid operator), Poste Italiane, Fincantieri (one of the biggest shipbuilding groups), ENI (Italy’s largest energy group), SNAM, Italgas and Saipem, among others. As of December 31, 2016, CDP Group had EUR 410.4 billion in total assets and employed over 30,000 people.
