UBI Banca (Unione di Banche Italiane) is the fifth largest banking groups in the country by branches with market share of about 5%. It is also the fourth largest Italian bank in terms of customer loans and direct funding from customers with a strong presence in the wealthiest areas of Italy. With about 3.8 million customers, the company operates over 1,440 domestic branches of which about 600 branches in Lombardy. The Group also has a significant presence in the South of Italy through Banca Carime, which has approximately 300 branches across Apulia, Calabria, Campania and Basilicata. UBI Banca was created on April 1, 2007 through the merger of BPU Banca and Banca Lombarda. During reorganization of UBI Banca Group in 2016-2017, Banca Popolare Commercio e Industria, Banca Regionale Europea, Banca Popolare di Bergamo, Banco di Brescia, Banca di Valle Camonica, Banca Popolare di Ancona and Banca Carime were merged into UBI Banca. As of March 31, 2017, the company had total assets of EUR 114.3 billion and customer loans of EUR 84.5 billion.
