Bankia S.A. (Bolsa de Madrid: BKIA) is a financial group providing a wide range of products and services to individuals, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), large corporations and public and private institutions. It is active in the following areas: retail banking, business banking, private banking, asset management, insurance and capital markets. With over 13,000 employees, the company operates through approximately 1,900 physical branches and 5,400 ATMs with a strong presence in the Community of Madrid, Valencia, the Canary Islands, Castilla y León and Castilla - La Mancha. It also has representative office in Shanghai, China. Bankia is listed on the four Spanish stock exchanges and a member of the IBEX 35 index. The company was formed in December 2010 through the consolidation of seven regional banks, or cajas, into the first Spanish bank with national scope. The companies who signed the integration contract had the following proportions of shares: 52.06% Caja Madrid; 37.70% Bancaja; 2.45% La Caja de Canarias; 2.33% Caja de Ávila; 2.11% Caixa Laietana; 2.01% Caja Segovia and 1.34% Caja Rioja. In 2012, Bankia sold Finanmadrid México to Mexican financial institution CIBanco. In 2015, Bankia closed the sale of City National Bank of Florida (CNB) to Chilean bank Banco de Crédito e Inversiones (BCI). As of June 30, 2017, the company had total assets of EUR 180.884 billion, customer deposits of EUR 103 billion and customer loans of EUR 104.4 billion. Bankia has its registered office in Valencia while its operational headquarters are in Madrid.
