UBS Group AG is a multinational financial services company which offers a combination of wealth management, asset management and investment banking services on a global and regional basis. UBS is Switzerland's largest bank and one of the biggest financial institutions in the world. UBS AG is a bank and the main operating company of the UBS Group. The company operates around 900 business and banking locations worldwide, with 35% of its employees working in the Americas, 36% in Switzerland, 17% in the rest of Europe and the Middle East, and 12% in Asia Pacific. UBS was originally an abbreviation for the Union Bank of Switzerland, one of its predecessors; however, UBS ceased to be considered a representational abbreviation after its 1998 merger with Swiss Bank Corporation. As of June 30, 2017, UBS Group AG had total assets of CHF 890.831 billion and invested assets of CHF 2.9 trillion.
UBS business units:
Wealth Management focuses on delivering comprehensive financial services to high net worth individuals except those served by Wealth Management Americas. It serves customers in more than 40 countries. As of June 30, 2017, UBS Wealth Management's client assets amounted to CHF 1.214 trillion.
Wealth Management Americas includes the domestic United States business, the domestic Canadian business and the international business booked in the United States. UBS has a major presence in the United States, with its American headquarters located in New York City, New Jersey and Stamford. As of June 30, 2017, client assets amounted to CHF 1.166 trillion (US$1.2 trillion).
Global Asset Management offers investment capabilities and styles across all major traditional and alternative asset classes including equities, fixed income, currency, hedge fund, real estate and infrastructure. The firm is a leading fund house in Europe, the largest mutual fund manager in Switzerland and one of the largest fund of hedge funds and real estate investment managers in the world. Invested assets amount to CHF 700 billion.
Investment Bank provides expert advice, innovative solutions, execution and comprehensive access to the world's capital markets for corporate and institutional clients, governments, financial intermediaries, alternative asset managers and private investors. It employs about 12,000 staff in 35 countries. Since the early 2000s, UBS Investment Bank has been among the top fee generating investment banks globally. In 2017, UBS won prestigious awards being named: 'Best Investment Bank' and 'Best M&A Bank' by Global Finance magazine.
Retail & Corporate division provides financial products and services to retail, corporate and institutional customers in Switzerland. It has client assets of CHF 651 billion, gross loans of CHF 133 billion and employs about 5,000 people.
