Australian Securities Exchange (or ASX Limited) is the leading stock exchange in Australia and one of the world’s top 10 exchange groups based on market capitalization of its listed companies. About 1.5 million companies are registered in Australia, of those 2,164 are listed and traded on ASX (October 31, 2016) with a combined market capitalization of approximately A$1.6 trillion. ASX main revenue lines are listings and issuer services, trading services, equity post-trade services, derivatives and OTC markets. The Australian Stock Exchange was formed on April 1, 1987 after the amalgamation of six independent state-based stock exchanges. In July 2006 ASX merged with the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFX) and from August 2010, it has been known as the ASX Group. ASX operates two trading platforms – ASX Trade (cash markets) and ASX Trade24 (derivative markets). ASX maintains stock indices concerning stocks traded on the exchange in conjunction with Standard & Poor's as well as Franking Credit Adjusted indices, Fixed Income indices, Residential Property indices, Sector indices, Strategy indices and Volatility indices.
