The Nigerian stock exchange (NSE) was established in 1960 as the Lagos Stock Exchange. In 1977, it became The Nigerian Stock Exchange. NSE is the second largest stock exchange in Africa after Johannesburg Stock Exchange, by market capitalization, trading value and number of listed companies. The third largest stock market in Africa is Casablanca Stock Exchange (Bourse de Casablanca) with market capitalization of listed companies of US$53 billion (October 2016). NSE maintains an All Share Index. Only common stocks are included in the computation of the index. As of June 30, 2016, NSE had 251 listed securities with a total market capitalization of approximately N17.3 trillion (US$61 billion).
