Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) is the leading public equities market in Canada as well as the third largest exchange group in North America. In addition to securities, TSX lists exchange-traded funds, split share corporations, income trusts and investment funds. The company is the leader in the mining and oil & gas sector, with more mining and oil & gas listed companies than any other stock market in the world. The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) was established in 1852 and formally incorporated in 1878. Toronto Stock Exchange operates as a subsidiary of TMX Group.
TMX Group also owns and operates TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV), TSX Alpha Exchange (TSXA), Montréal Exchange and NGX. As of October 2016, TSX and TSXV were home to more than 3,400 listed companies with a combined market capitalization of approximately US$2 trillion. TSX Venture Exchange, a fully electronic exchange, is a public venture capital marketplace for emerging companies. The Montréal Exchange (MX), founded in 1832, is the oldest exchange in Canada. It is an electronic exchange dedicated to the development of derivative markets. MX lists equity options, options on ETFs, currency options, index derivatives and interest rate derivatives as well as owns a majority interest in Boston Options Exchange (BOX) and the Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation (CDCC). Natural Gas Exchange (NGX), based in Calgary, provides trading, clearing and data services for the North American natural gas and electricity markets. TMX Group owns 47% of CanDeal, an electronic fixed income request-for-quotation system between clients and dealers as well as owns 100% of Shorcan Brokers, the first fixed income inter-dealer broker in Canada. The company is based in Toronto with offices in Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, New York, Houston, Boston and Chicago as well as in Beijing, London, Sydney and Singapore.
Trading Hours:
Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange have trading hours from 09:30 am to 04:00 pm ET (Monday - Friday). There is also an extended session for market participants from 4:15 pm to 5:00 pm on all days of the week except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
