Banco de Chile (Bank of Chile) (NYSE: BCH), founded in October 1893, is the strongest private bank in Latin America. It is also the largest bank in Chile in terms of current accounts and assets under management and the second largest by total loans. The Bank’s main competitors are Banco Santander Chile, BBVA Chile, Bci and Itau Corpbanca. With over 14,000 employees, Banco de Chile serves over 2 million customers through approximately 420 full service branches and more than 1,450 ATMs nationwide. Some of the bank’s branches are located in New York and Miami and representative offices can be found in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Beijing and Sao Paulo, and foreign trade office in Hong Kong. The company provides general banking services to a diverse customer base that includes large corporations, small and mid-sized businesses and individuals. It offers deposit products, credit cards, consumer and mortgage loans, commercial loans, investments, international and treasury banking services, payment services, foreign trade, factoring, leasing, financing of importers, financing for exporters, total business insurance, theft and content insurance, online banking and more. In 2002, Banco de Chile merged with Banco de A. Edwards, the fourth largest private banks by loans and the fifth largest in terms of equity. In January 2008, Banco de Chile took over assets and liabilities of Citibank Chile, the Chilean subsidiary of Citigroup Inc. Banco de Chile’s shares are listed on the Santiago Stock Exchange, the Chilean Electronic Exchange, the Valparaiso Stock Exchange, Madrid Stock Exchange and New York stock exchange. As of March 31, 2017, the company had CLP 31.833 trillion (US$48 billion) in total assets and CLP 25.408 trillion (US$38.5 billion) in loans.
