HBOS plc is UK-based financial services company and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group. HBOS and its subsidiaries provide a broad range of financial products and services in the United Kingdom and overseas. The company was created in September 2001 through the merger of Halifax plc and Bank of Scotland plc, becoming the fifth largest financial services provider in the UK. In 2006, HBOS transferred assets and liabilities of Halifax plc to Bank of Scotland. In 2009, HBOS became a member of the Lloyds Banking Group and currently it operates as a separate organisation within the Group. As of June 30, 2016, HBOS had total assets of £338.506 billion, loans and advances to customers of £269.435 billion and customer deposits of £185.638 billion.
