Barclays PLC (NYSE: BCS, LSE: BARC) is a global financial services company offering retail, corporate and investment banking, assets management, private banking and other services. Barclays’s core businesses include Barclays UK (Personal Banking, Barclaycard UK, Business Banking and Wealth) and Barclays Corporate & International (Corporate and Investment Bank, Barclaycard International, Payments and Merchant Acquiring). With approximately 130,000 employees, it serves 48 million customers in more than 50 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, Middle East and America (USA, Canada, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Mexico and Puerto Rico). In 2008, Barclays acquired Lehman Brothers North American investment banking and capital markets businesses. In 2013-2014, it bought ING Direct UK business and sold its retail banking unit in Spain to Caixabank. Barclays is the second largest bank in the UK in terms of assets. As of March 31, 2017, it had total assets of £1.204 trillion (US$1.5 trillion), customer loans of £405.3 billion (US$520 billion) and customer deposits of £450.6 billion (US$578 billion).
