Farm Credit Bank of Texas (FCBT) is a cooperatively owned wholesale bank and part of the $300 billion Farm Credit System, the largest rural lender in the country. The United States is served by four Farm Credit Banks: AgFirst, AgriBank, CoBank and Farm Credit Bank of Texas. Each bank is owned by a group of local retail cooperatives. Farm Credit Bank of Texas provides loan funds and services in five states to 14 retail-lending co-ops (Agricultural Credit Associations and Federal Land Credit Associations) and certain other financing institutions in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Texas. These lenders make loans to farmers, ranchers, agribusiness firms, country homeowners and other rural landowners. FCBT is also active in the capital markets arena, participating in large-loan opportunities with the food, agribusiness, rural utility and rural communications sectors. Farm Credit Bank of Texas is the result of the 1988 merger of the Federal Land Bank of Texas (est. 1916) and Federal Intermediate Credit Bank of Texas (est. 1923). FCBT earns some of the highest credit ratings in the lending industry.
